In this conversation, Kerryn Powell, The Network Catalyst speaks with Marc Nuss, the Business Development Manager of Destiny Rescue.

Destiny Rescue is an Australian Not for Profit organisation dedicated to fighting the trafficking and sexual exploitation of children in seven Project Nations around the globe. They are committed to fighting for their freedom and bright futures.

Avoiding difficult conversations might seem like the easier path in the moment, but in the long run, it can hold us back from growth, resolution, and deeper connections. Here are a few reasons why we should embrace rather than avoid these conversations:

  1. Growth and Learning: Difficult conversations often push us out of our comfort zones, encouraging personal growth. They challenge our beliefs, assumptions, and behaviors, offering opportunities for learning and gaining new perspectives. When we confront uncomfortable truths or issues, we often come out stronger, more resilient, and more self-aware.

  2. Building Authentic Relationships: Real relationships are built on trust, openness, and authenticity. Avoiding difficult conversations can create a superficial connection, where issues are left unresolved, and trust is eroded. By addressing sensitive topics, we show that we value the relationship enough to tackle challenges and work towards a solution together.

  3. Problem-Solving and Clarity: Many conflicts or issues remain unresolved simply because people are unwilling to address them. Open, honest conversations can bring clarity to misunderstandings, solve long-standing problems, and clear up confusion that otherwise might fester and grow worse over time.

  4. Creating Change and Raising Awareness: Difficult conversations often center around critical societal issues—whether it’s about injustice, inequality, or harm, like the work Destiny Rescue is doing. These are the conversations that matter because they raise awareness and can spark action. When we confront uncomfortable truths, we empower ourselves and others to create meaningful change.
